UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez2/20/10 - Sydney, AustraliaCompuStrike Round-by-Round StatsMain EventCain Velasquez KO 1 Minotauro Nogueira View CompuStrike Stats
Inside the Numbers: A star was born in the land Down Under. Velasquez never let the former Pride and UFC heavyweight champ in the fight, landing 12 thudding leg kicks before focusing on the head. Velasquez, now 8-0 (6-0, 5 ko’s in the UFC), landed a crunching body shot, then a three-punch combination that put Minotauro to sleep. Five unanswered ground shots followed and a new heavyweight contender emerged. Velasquez has now outlanded his five opponents tracked by CompuStrike 481-63 in total strikes, nearly an 8-1 ratio.
Main CardWanderlei Silva W 3 Michael Bisping View CompuStrike Stats
Inside the Numbers: Silva, who had lost five of his previous six fights, boiled down to 185-lbs and looked like a different fighter- both facially and physically. Silva had the edge in strikes landed in round one, winging wildly, but Bisping may have carried the round, scoring three takedowns in five attempts. Bisping scored with the jab in round two and also added two more takedowns and a submission attempt. Silva landed 11 leg kicks and sunk a tight arm-in guillotine as the horn ended round two, possibly saving Bisping. Silva spent the third round swinging for the fences, scoring with 16 arm strikes and 16 leg strikes. Bisping did damage as well- but all three of his takedown attempts were stuffed by Silva, who dropped Bisping flat on his back at the ten second warning horn, as Bisping was again saved by the bell. All three of Bisping’s losses are to former UFC or Pride champs.
Ryan Bader KO 3 Keith Jardine View CompuStrike Stats
Inside the Numbers: Bader, now 12-0, pressed the action in round one, landing 29 of 42 total strikes, 20 of which were from the ground. Bader scored on his only takedown attempt. The striking was close in round two, while Jardine stuffed four of Bader’s five attempted takedowns. Bader continued to press the action in the third. Bader buckled Jardine with a right hand, then drove him into the cage with a knee to the chest. A short left hook put Jardine’s lights out. Bader came forward all fight, but missed wildly with many arm strikes, landing on 19 of 50 (38%).
George Sotiropoulos W 3 Joe Stevenson View CompuStrike Stats
Inside the Numbers: Impressive upset victory for Aussie Sotiropoulos, who displayed a varied attack against the veteran Stevenson. Sotiropoulos landed 24 arm strikes and 21 legs strikes for the fight, while scoring three takedowns, four submission attempts and five dominant positions. Sotiropoulos’s striking and ground game prevented Stevenson from mounting any consistent offense, as Joe Daddy, who was rocked in round two, landed just 20 total strikes all night.
Mirko Cro Cop KO 2 Anthony Perosh View CompuStrike Stats
Inside the Numbers: Ho-hum performance by Cro Cop vs. late sub and hometown hero Perosh, who was outlanded 50-11. Where were the leg kicks from Cro Cop, who opened a nasty gash on Perosh’s forehead with a well-placed elbow in round two. The overly-game Perosh failed on all 12 takedown attempts. 33 of Cro Cop’s 50 landed strikes were from the ground.
